Last month, I yet again traveled for Style My Trip to Andermatt, which is becoming The TRENDY PLACE-TO-BE for winter sports! A snowy getaway that will definitely turn out to be the best you have ever had. Trust me, you really want to see this hotspot. The Chedi Andermatt is a dream come true!
Andermatt, The new hotspot in The Swiss Alps
Andermatt is a beautiful village in the Swiss Alps. This place was bought up a while ago by multi-millionaire Samih Sawiris, and he is currently transforming it into the most luxurious ski resort in Europe. I got to visit this new hotspot and I was left AMAZED!
The scenic views took my breath away. Plus, the resort was an insanely big and beautiful project! A total of 1.5 billion euros in total are being invested in Andermatt. Hence, I am sure this will be the new Swiss hotspot that will make your winter escape worth remembering.
Furthermore, with such vast lands, Andermatt is currently, the largest and most modern winter sports area in central Switzerland!
A story untold
Let me start from the very beginning. Andermatt used to be a military base. Soon, the villagers started leaving the grounds and Andermatt became almost deserted. And that is when Samih Sawiris came to check it out.
He actually came only as a consultant, but Samih’s keen eye saw so much potential in Andermatt that he decided to buy it himself. I believe he saw the bigger picture and knew that Andermatt was more than just a deserted base.
The former military foundation has a total of 1 million square meters of land. It soon became a base for building the now beautiful project you will see just like I have. And believe me, just as I was left astounded you will be too. The location is majestic!
The Chedi Hotel of Andermatt
I believe that The Chedi is indeed the “Jewel of Andermatt”. The luxurious Chedi hotel is a staycation spot that you MUST visit once in your lifetime! It is an amazing hotel! Believe me.
The Chedi Andermatt is designed by leading architect-designer Jean Michel Gathy. The majestic hotel has over 200 antique fireplaces! Hence, besides its hyper-modern and luxurious interior, this hotel is romantic and hygge at the same time. As you enter, your eyes fall on the Glass-fronted fireplace in the lobby that exudes an inviting and warm feel.
There is also an amazing spa in the hotel. It is literally the best spot to relax after a whole day of having fun skiing and gaming. The 2400m² spa area features further pools as well as multiple saunas and steam rooms, a state-of-the-art gym, and a yoga studio. The 35m pool is just the place to hang out and chill. Take a dip in the warm water. Trust me the warm water does WONDERS!
Plus, the Hästens mattresses in all rooms ensure that every guest gets the perfect night’s sleep. I slept like a baby! Additionally, the bathrooms are equipped with Aqua di Parma toiletries, the very best in quality.
Appetizing cuisine awaits!
Furthermore, the restaurants at The Chedi are also INSANELY good! The vibes, the ambiance, the staff. Everything was perfect. The eatery offers Western-Asian fusion cuisine. And not to forget the Michelin-starred Japanese restaurant. So dining at The Chedi will rasasi your palate in every possible way. And the very best at that.
I loved the flavorsome dishes and especially the WINE. Tangy yet refreshing if I put my experience in words. Came right out of their monumental wine room. You can also get breakfast. It is buffet style, with cold options such as cold cuts, salad, cereals, yogurt, and fruit.
The real highlight, though, is the hotel’s five-meter-high cheese tower, an almighty glass structure showcasing the best of local produce. It is ASTOUNDING!
Professional Workforce
Furthermore, the services offered to the guests by The Chedi workforce are SUBLIME! Like my skis were cleaned daily by the staff, and my ski boots were pre-heated so I could hit the slopes nice and warm! My heart leaped with joy when I put my cold feet in the cozy boots. This is my kind of love language, beauties. A way to a girl’s heart!
At the end of the day, I returned my skis and the hotel staff cleaned them for me later on. After a long fun day at the slopes, I came back to sit by the warm hotel fireplace and sipped a glass of Bourbon. A moment worth melting for.
I later picked the skis up the next morning and everything was set for me!
The Chedi brings you an ultimate combination of skiing in the lush snow and then enjoying a luxury staycation!
The Chedi Andermatt is Car-free!
Another thing that appealed to me was that Andermatt is completely car-free! Hence, the air is as fresh as ever. I parked my car in the mega garage they built under the village. All guests who arrive at Andermatt can do so.
Plus, it was super convenient because each flat, as well as the hotel, has a separate entrance. Furthermore, everything you need during your stay can be found in the village, so there really is no necessity to leave Andermatt.
An amazing Ski area!
But what Andermatt is all about, of course, is the ski area. Home to more than 120 kilometers of slopes, Andermatt is the largest ski area in central Switzerland!
One of the things that pulled me there was the new lift that has been built to connect Andermatt and Sedrun. The views you see, suspended in the air, gently gliding upon the snow-covered valleys below, take your breath away. My heart skipped a beat when I was enjoying the ride and I fell in love with the scenic views all around me.
Moreover, it is super convenient for us guests because the lift makes it easier for us to access a full spectrum of slopes. Whichever we would like to ski on. The lift indeed opens a lot of options!
A spectrum of services at The Chedi Andermatt
What I personally found a great convenience during my stay at Andermatt was the possibility to take the train from Sedrun to Andermatt. Since I was exhausted after all the skiing during the day I almost had no energy left to walk back to the hotel. So I took the train to return to Andermatt.
I highly recommend you guys hop on the train to go back. You will be at Andermatt in no time! What’s more, is that the train even has an apres-ski car! So if you feel like partying, this train comes with all the gear.
Even though Andermatt already has 14 lifts, they are bringing something even more magical for their guests. Another ski lift but BETTER! Porsche is working on this project and the magic element is the ‘HEATED SEATS”! How nice is that? Just warming up when you’re in the lift! I’m already a fan! Can’t wait to try it out.
Additionally, little or no snow is no problem at Andermatt. Because the workforce has piste that spreads artificial snow. And, during the summer, excess snow from the winter before is stored which is later used when the ski season opens. The season starts in December and the festivities go on till April. My personal recommendation is you go to Andermatt in March. The weather is the best those days!
The warm sun shines on the glistening snow below and it is neither too cold nor too hot. Nice and cool for a perfect ski spree.
Enjoy crunchy snow and warm sunlight. A winter wonderland at Andermatt awaits!
